At its site in Dormagen, Covestro has brought into operation a new production facility for aqueous polyurethane dispersions (PUDs). Together with the company’s ongoing expansion of its manufacturing site in Barcelona, this new plant significantly increases its capacity in Europe. In order to meet growing global demand, Covestro is also building a new plant in China, as well as planning to resume production in the United States and, at the same time, modernizing and expanding its facilities there. The new production capacity is primarily intended to meet the increasing demand from the coatings and adhesives industry, where manufacturers are replacing solvent-based products with more sustainable waterborne systems that have equivalent properties. This trend is also being driven by regulations that require emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC) to be reduced.
