Powder coating of complex parts in small and medium batch sizes requires efficient and flexible solutions. The depth-controlled, individual positioning developed by Gema using laser technology has proven to be an economical alternative to the time-consuming positioning of axes or manual programming of part shapes. At the entrance to the coating booth, laser scanners permanently record the outer contour of the objects. This data is transmitted via the controller to the U-axes, which position the coating guns individually and continuously correcting them in front of the object with pinpoint accuracy. The continuous contour recognition integrated into the coating process by the scanners enables a high degree of automation even for standard systems. The time-consuming positioning of axes or the manual programming of part shapes is no longer necessary. However, dynamic contour recognition cannot fully replace a coating robot.
