Standardization Body Wants to Revise Machine Safety Standards for Surface Technology

The European standardization committee for machine safety in surface technology, led by the Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau (VDMA), Germany, has decided to revise the EN12921 series, EN16985, EN12753, EN 14462 and EN 17059 standards. Interested parties are invited to participate in adapting the standards to the current state of the art and to define the requirements for new solutions.

Applying contemporary standards can reduce the manufacturer’s workload for the conformity assessment.

The following standards are being revised:

  • EN 12921 Parts 1 to 4 - Machines for surface cleaning and pretreatment of industrial items using liquids or vapors - Safety requirements
  • EN 16985 - Spray booths for application of organic coating materials – Safety requirements
  • EN 12753 - Thermal abatement systems for exhaust air from surface treatment equipment – Safety requirements
  • EN 14462 - Surface treatment equipment - Noise test code for surface treatment equipment, including its loading and unloading equipment - Accuracy grades 2 and 3
  • EN 17059 - Electroplating and anodizing equipment – Safety requirements

Companies interested in participating can register with Martin Riester, VDMA e. V. Oberflächentechnik.
