Axalta, a global supplier of liquid and powder coatings, has announced the launch of Plascoat pPA571 FR (flame retardant), a new anti-corrosion coating that protects buildings and can save lives in the event of a fire, according to the supplier. Based on decades of experience in thermoplastic technology, Axalta developed the new coating solution in response to the dual threat of fires and toxic fumes, which pose a major threat to human life and well-being. Such coatings, which can be used in a range of environments, are fire resistant and act as a barrier against additional damage from the spread of flames. Unlike many other flame retardant solutions on the market, Plascoat pPA571 FR does not contain a halogen ingredient such as chlorine or bromine, which helps prevent toxic fumes and the associated negative environmental impact. The solution was developed for steel, iron and aluminum substrates. Plascoat PPA571 FR's flame retardant properties and low toxicity are evidenced by its compliance with a number of industry certifications, including British Standard 476, EN 45545-2 European Railway Standard for Fire Safety, British Standard 6853, International Maritime Organization FTPC Standard, UL 94 - Tests for Flammability of Plastic Materials for Parts in Devices and Appliances.
