Sika has launched the third generation of epoxy technology especially for the fire resistance classes R15 to R45. The Sika Unitherm Platinum-30 insulation layer former, designed for interior and exterior steel components, combines fire and corrosion protection: without the use of a primer or top coat, the product is tested for corrosiveness category C3 according to DIN EN ISO 12944-6:2018, and in the system structure even very high up to C5. According to its own specifications, the product achieves an extraordinarily long protection period of more than 25 years. The solvent-free, profile-tracking epoxy resin-based coating can be easily applied to the steel with small application quantities, whereby 1K technology can also be used for processing. Thanks to the innovative raw material composition, the product has a high yield. Compared to the basic product Sika Unitherm Platinum, this results in a considerable material saving of 30 percent on average for R30 requirements. The insulating layer former, which is applied under controlled conditions in the factory, has the shortest curing times. Coated components can be transported and assembled within 24 hours. In addition, the product meets the requirements of systems for the certification of sustainable buildings such as LEED, BREEAM or the DGNB.
